OSLOB Cebu Whale Sharks

Oslob is a 4th class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 27,893 people. Oslob is bordered to the north by the town of Boljoon, to the west are the towns of Ginatilan and Samboan, to the east is the Cebu Strait, and to the south is the town of Santander. With the rising popularity (even in the international scene) of Sumilon Island and Swimming with the Whale Sharks, the beautiful town of Oslob is now one of the most visited tourist destinations in Cebu. More than the aforementioned spots, there are still a few more beautiful and travel-worthy destinations you can visit in Oslob.

Here’s everything you need to know so you can maximize your visit to Oslob, Southern Cebu. How to get there? From manila take a flight to cebu(Mactan International Airpor) estimated fare more than 2000 peos. From Mactan International Airport rent a taxi and go to Terminal South Bus estimated fare less than 200 pesos. From Terminal South Bus align to Ceres Bus going to bato oslob, Bus Fare non air conditioned 150 pesos, Bus Fare air conditioned 165 pesos. Travel time-3 to 4 hours. Frequency 30 minutes day and night 24hours. From Bato 20 minutes ride with a Ceres bus 30 pesos. From Moalboal around 2 hours (1hour and a half to get to Bato and then another 20 minutes) estimated fare 70 to 30 pesos. Top attraction in oslob are Sumilon Island, Swimming with whale shark at barangay tan awan, tumalog falls and oslob heritage park. Sumilon Island in Oslob remains as one of Cebu’s best kept secrets and is found on the southeastern tip of the mainland, a 20-minute boat ride away. Popular for its crystal clear waters and beautiful sandbar with white sand beach. Opening hours 7AM to 5PM daily. Boat fee, 2000 to 3500 pesos per group, good for 10-15pax, you may opt to join other groups as well. Swimming with whale shark at barangay tan awan, Get up close with the world’s largest fish the whale sharks, the gentle giants in Oslob. Swimming with a whale shark is a unique wildlife interaction that you will remember forever. Here are the fees, local tourist 300 pesos for Whale watching (no swimming) + Life Jacket and 500 pesos for Snorkeling with the Whale + Life Jacket, then Foreign tourist 1000 pesos for Snorkeling with the Whale + Life Jacket. Note, Whale Shark activity is available daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM only. The activity is good for 30 minutes only. Diving and snorkeling are limited in time and people. The activity is by batch. Tip, If you don’t want to wait in the line for too long and avoid the horrible traffic in the city and the southern parts, make sure to leave Cebu City or Mactan at around 2 or 3 AM. Tumalog falls experience magnificient enchanting charm falls, If you want a more refreshing treat. Transportation method going tumalog falls via habal habal motorcycle, fee is 30 pesos per head. Then entrance fee is 20 pesos per head.

Oslob heritage park, another destination just a few kilometers away from the whale shark watching site. Where you can find Cuartel, a preserved Spanish colonial era buildings. Baluarte, a fort and watchtower built in the early 19th century to give early warning of and to repel Moro raiders. Oslob Museum, contains some antiques which were contributed by the people of Oslob. No admission fee. Church of the Immaculate Concepcion, one of the oldest churches in southern Cebu. All these attractions are just steps away from each other, within the vicinity of Oslob Heritage Park. Activities in Oslob are Swimming at white sand bar, Swimming at the infinity pool, Kayaking at the lagoon, Sunbathing, Island nature trekking, Island Tour, Cave Tours, Climbing at the lighthouse where you see the view of whole island and snorkeling.
